Excell Santa Gertrudis

Starting in 1992 with a small herd of commercial Santa Gertrudis cattle our son Todd began showing at local events in and around South Texas and Houston. Competing against some of the highest quality show cattle from the best ranches of the 90’s and early 2000’s we quickly realized the quality of show calf needed to compete in the purebred Santa Gertrudis show cattle industry. Unlike most breeders then and still today we focus less on the sire or bull side of the cattle pedigrees but instead the dam or female side. Our original and most successful Santa Gertrudis show heifers became the base of our herd and seed-stock bloodlines for the cattle we produce and sell today.

Excell Santa Gertrudis has become a boutique Santa gertrudis herd producing cattle descending from our most successful female, the 2004 Jr. National Grand Champion Female SCC Hanna 2S23 and her progeny. Hanna’s progeny and grand-progeny continue to be the base of our herd while we continue incorporating only the finest Santa Gertrudis show genetics.

Today the focus remains the same for Excell Santa Gertrudis. Produce the best purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle available using modern genetics and the latest reproductive technologies in the cattle industry.

Currently over half of the cattle produced and registered from Excell Santa Gertrudis are developed through Embryo Transfer and Artificial Insemination. This allows us to produce multiple calves from the very best donor females in the Santa Gertrudis breed.

We believe superior bloodlines and pedigrees are essential for predicting the consistency and quality a female will grow to become when on feed and competing in the show-ring. All of our donors meet this standard of quality needed to compete and win in the show ring and beyond.
